Hormel's most famous product is SPAM luncheon meat. The canned meat has been a hit throughout the world, most notably in Hawaii. It was relied on heavily during the wars since it was easily transported, could be eaten without coooking and didn't spoil.

SPAM is a conveniently packaged canned meat product made of 100 percent pure pork and ham. SPAM Classic contains 180 calories per two-ounce serving. SPAM luncheon meat first was produced in 1937. It was one of the first convenient, moderately priced and great tasting meat products on the market.

SPAM is produced in two U.S. locations Austin, Minn. and Fremont, Neb., and in three foreign countries Denmark, Korea and the Philippines. At full capacity, the U.S. plants are capable of producing more than 44,000 cans of SPAM per hour.

There are six permanent varieties of SPAMSPAM Classic, SPAM lite, SPAM less sodium, SPAM hot & spicy, SPAM smoke flavored and SPAM oven roasted turkey.  In addition, there are two seasonal flavors- SPAM with cheese and SPAM bbq flavored.  In addition to those flavors, SPAM garlic flavored is distributed outside the U.S.
